The aqueous two phase systems (atps) contain partly urethanized pva (polyvinyl alcohol) and hydrophobically modified cyclocopolymers formed from the monomers diallylammonioethanoate, 0-3 mol % dodecyldiallylammonium chloride and sulphur dioxide, the copolymers having varying proportions of polybetaine (pb) and anionic polyelectrolyte (ape) fractions. The aqueous two-phase systems are useful in the separation and purification of biomaterials..

Method for preparing catalysts for producing alcohols from synthesis gas

The present invention relates to a method of preparing catalysts based on molybdenum sulphide, with an alkaline promoter incorporated, said catalysts being employed in the production of alcohols, especially ethanol, from synthesis gas. The method involves reaction of molybdenum hexacarbonyl (mo(co)6) with sulphur, so as to generate molybdenum sulphide, in which an alkaline promoter is then incorporated, so as to obtain a solid catalyst for application in processes of production of alcohols from synthesis gas, selective for ethanol..

Method and system for obtaining sweet gas, synthetic gas and sulphur from natural gas

A method for obtaining sweet gas, synthetic gas, and sulphur from natural gas. The method includes the steps of removing impurities from the natural gas for obtaining pre-treated natural gas; sweetening the pre-treated natural gas through a separation using a plurality of membranes for obtaining sweet gas and acid gases; ionizing the acid gases to dissociate them into sulphur and synthetic gas with remnants of acid gases; and neutralizing the synthetic gas with remnants of acid gases for generating sweet gas.

Method for treating impurities contained in exhaust gases of ships, ship with exhaust gas scrubber, and purification unit

Method for treating impurities contained in exhaust gases of ships to reduce sulphur oxide and other emissions. In order for the method to purify wash water exiting from an exhaust gas scrubber sufficiently enough to be directly dischargeable to sea, and in order for a purification unit used to be small enough to be easily placed onboard a ship, exhaust gases are scrubbed in the exhaust gas scrubber and wash water containing impurities and exiting from the scrubber is supplied to the purification unit, circulated in an effluent circuit, and filtered through a semipermeable membrane of a filter to obtain purified effluent and a residue containing impurities, when necessary, the ph value of the purified effluent is adjusted to be at least 6.5, after which it is discharged into the sea or recycled to the scrubber while the residue containing impurities is led back to the effluent circuit..

Vulcanisable compositions based on epoxy group-containing nitrile rubbers

There are provided novel vulcanizable compositions based on optionally fully or partly hydrogenated nitrile rubbers containing epoxy groups, specific basic crosslinkers and crosslinking accelerators, as a result of which the use of conventional crosslinkers, such as sulphur in particular, is no longer required. The vulcanizates producible therefrom possess very good compression sets at room temperature, 100° c.

Phenate detergent preparation

A sulphurised calcium phenate detergent is made by (i) reacting hydrogenated distlled cnsl with a calcium salt and sulphur in the presence of a promoter and process solvent; (ii) reacting the product of (i) with additional calcium salt and promoter, and with a co-surfactant, and then carbonating; and optionally (iii) further carbonating the reaction mixture to obtain overbased sulphurised calcium phenate.. .

Process for producing styrene-, methylstyrene- and ethylbenzene-free c6-c9 aromatic hydrocarbon blends

Various substantially styrene-, methylstyrene- and ethylbenzene-free c6-c9 aromatic hydrocarbon blends are produced from a hydrocarbon feed stream containing c5-c9 aromatic hydrocarbons including styrene, methylstyrene and sulphur compounds by first separating the stream into a distillate containing c5-c7 hydrocarbons, and a bottoms fraction containing c8 and c9 hydrocarbons; and converting the styrene and methylstyrene to their corresponding ethers by reacting with a c1-c3 lower alcohol in the presence of a selective acidic etherification catalyst. The effluent may be sent to a gasoline pool for blending or the effluent is separated by distillation into an ether stream and either a c8 or a c8-c9 aromatic hydrocarbon rich stream.
